Theft and criminal damage in Kenilworth is "getting out of hand" according to shopkeepers and homeowners.
Over the last few months garages, shops and cars have been broken into regularly and on Tuesday night Roseland Post Office, in Caesar Road, had a concrete slab thrown into its front door, in what is being treated as an attempted break-in.

Natu Kanani, 61, runs the business with his wife Kiran.

He fears this incident may not be the last unless more police patrol the streets.

Mr Kanani said: "I came to work on Wednesday morning to find my front door smashed and there was a broken paving slab beside it on the floor. I am still very annoyed and frustrated.

"I've had to spend hours trying to sort out repairs which will cost hundreds of pounds."

He added: "Over the last few months incidents like this have been on the rise in the area.

"My landlord's garage was broken into and lots of my customers tell me their property has been targeted too - clearly something needs to be done."

Joe Rukin, of Caeser Road, had a car engine stolen from his garage last month and believes incidents like this "just didn't used to happen in the area".

He said: "It's got to the point where I'm not surprised when I hear my neighbours have been targeted by thieves and vandals.

"These types of crimes are rising and to a ridiculous level.

"It seems like criminals can do what they like and not worry about the consequences, because nothing seems to be done about it."

Sgt Paul Farrell, of Warwickshire Police, said there are four police officers and three police community support officers on foot in Kenilworth every day.

He added: "There has been a recent spate of burglaries in the area but crime is decreasing overall.

"House burglary has fallen by 19 per cent in the last 12 months since we launched Operation Lowhill and we will work with the community to bring these figures down further.

"We are doing everything we can to tackle all types of crime and we treat each case on its own merit.

"If anyone has any information that could help us, call 851111."
