Kenilworth police are investigating allegations that a number of people have fallen victim to a credit card scam after visiting a town garage.
The complaints have been made by customers at the Shell petrol station in Warwick Road.
Two customers, who did not wish to be named, approached the Weekly News this week to make sure others do not fall victim of the crime.
One man said that he had heard of at least eight other victims of fraud in the area, all of whom had used the garage.
He said: "I was at Kenilworth Tennis Club and as I told people what had happened, three others had also been victims and five others knew of people who had had the same problem.
"My card was used for cash withdrawals in Malaysia after using my card in the Shell garage in Kenilworth.
"The sum of £143.62 was taken four times from my account. I have heard this is happening in other areas too including Hatton and I just want people to be aware of the problems."
He added: "I tried to contact the petrol station but no one was interested. I have reported it to the police and we'll see what happens now."
Another customer added: "Many people have been defrauded of thousands of pounds after buying petrol from there. I feel that Kenilworth people should be made aware of this."
A police spokesman said: "We have received a number of reports of fraud with credit or debit cards and it is being investigated."
They gave the following tips to Weekly News readers regarding credit card transactions:
- Carefully check statements.
- Contact bank or credit card company with any suspicions.
- Never give out personal details to anyone.
No one was available for comment from Shell at the time of this going to print.
