THE Bee Gees, Boyz II Men and The Beach Boys have influenced the sounds of contemporary harmony pop band Blake - and audiences in Leamington can catch them live next week.

As they prepare for the release of their new album Start Over on February 11, the four-man group will perform at the Spa Centre on Thursday.

As well as classic songs from their three chart-topping albums, Ollie Baines, Humphrey Berney, Stephen Bowman and Jules Knight are looking forward to performing some new material.

The new album features original songs as well as selected covers including Paul McCartney’s Beautiful Night and Bob Dylan’s To Make You Feel My Love.

Having formed in 2007, recording and performing as a classical group, Start Over is Blake’s first pop album - but the four singers say the change in musical direction is a natural progression.

Inspired by vocalists such as the Bee Gees, Boyz II Men and The Beach Boys, and having toured almost continually since 2009, Blake’s live set list has expanded to include more contemporary material.

Last year was particularly successful for the group, who performed in China, the USA and the Phillipines, as well as more than 50 dates across the UK - including a stint at the Gold Challenge Olympic Stadium event in April.

Speaking about the new album, Jules said: “At the heart of Blake is our love of the sound of four voices singing together in harmony, regardless of musical genre.

“I think it’s always had a timeless quality that’s pleasing to the ear, comforting, emotive, and with the ability to take the listener from ‘melancholic’ to ‘uplifted’ within a beat.”

The concert on Thursday starts at 7.30pm. For tickets, which cost £19 (£18 concessions), call 334418 or go online.
