Kenilworth's newest Fairtrade café and shop - The King's Table - will officially open on Wednesday March 5.
For the last four years The King's Table has been at St Francis Parish Centre every Wednesday, but the plan has always been to work out of a central location five days a week.

So when the Warwick Road building became available, the trustees jumped
at the chance to grow. But whilst the refurbished former Bedlam bed shop might be just about ready – are the volunteers?

Staff training has already started for old and new helpers with the first of a few practice runs at the cafe this week. The expansion means more volunteers are needed so The King's Table is looking for more people to help out.

Tricia Jones, volunteer co-ordinator said: "We have around 80 volunteers who have offered to help in many different ways already.

"This may seem like a lot, but don't forget we needed at least 60 people to run this enterprise for just one day a week. Now that we hope to be operating five days a week, we will need many more people."

The King's Table needs helpers to work in the shop, the kitchen, serve at tables and to welcome customers.

Mrs Jones added: "There are many jobs which need to be done outside of the café and shop, such as baking cakes and serving on the board of Trustees.

"Every type of person, from every walk of life could find a fulfilling role in this venture and we would really value any contribution.

"I think it's really important that no one person is asked to do too much. So a volunteer would perhaps work just once or twice a month, depending on the role, although many have volunteered for more than this."

The King's Table is a Christian café and bookshop. Juteronomy, which up until last year sold Christian books and gifts in Talisman Square, has relocated to share the space.

They will still be selling their fairly traded goods, gifts and books. The café serves home style food including morning coffee along with Karen's 'famous' scones, lunches and afternoon tea.

The King's Table will be officially opened by Kenilworth's Mayor Pat Ryan on Wednesday, March 5 at 10am. The café will be open to the public at 10.30am on that day. If you would be interested in serving as a volunteer contact Tricia Jones on 777856.
