People affected by violent conflict in Africa and Asia will be given a helping hand by a Kenilworth charity golf event this spring.
Preparations for the Mayor's Golf Day have begun and organisers were pleased to accept £500 worth of vouchers from Waitrose - due to open a store in Kenilworth this year - to give away as prizes for winners at the event in April.

Leamington-based
charity CORD is organising the day to raise funds for its work helping people in Darfur, Uganda, Burundi and Cambodia. The group also plans to start new programmes in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and Burma.

More than 50 people and 15 teams have already signed up to take part in the event, which will also be a celebration of Shakespeare's birthday.

Kenilworth Mayor Counci Pat Ryan said: "We are really pleased to have the support of Waitrose and with the positive response we have received so far. I hope that more people will get involved to fill the five places we have still remaining."

The competition is open to teams of four and there will be an evening meal at the clubhouse provided. To take part, contact Richard Dickson on 315301 or email:
