Dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteer passes away at age of 79

A KENILWORTH volunteer, who dedicated his retirement years to helping Meals on Wheels, has died aged 79.
Michael Gilbert Rickard, a former deputy headmaster in Coventry, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Thursday, January 17.
Mr Rickard was the deputy head at Caludon Castle School in Coventry in 1954. He taught maths and geography before he became deputy head in the 1970s.
In 1986, aged 58, he took early retirement from the school in Wyken.
He had moved to Coventry from Cornwall and spent two years teaching at the John Gulson School, before joining Caludon Castle.
Mr Rickard and his wife Lucille moved to Kenilworth after he left the school and the couple spent their time travelling.
Since he was widowed seven years ago, Mr Rickard had devoted much of his time to helping Meals on Wheels.
The funeral took place at St John's Church, Kenilworth, on Wednesday (30) and was followed by cremation at Cannon Hill Chapel, Canley Crematorium.
Donations were made to Myton Hospice, care of John Taylor Funeral Care, Warwick Road, Kenilworth, CV8 1HU.
He leaves three children and seven grandchildren.
