Dedicated individuals who have made a difference to the Harbury community can be put forward for an award that recognises their efforts.
Nominations are now being accepted for the Spirit of Harbury award, now in its sixth year.
Villager Alison Hunt set up the scheme after her husband and former parish chairman John died in 2001.
She said: "I have always held the opinion that a l
ot of the Queen's honours should go to people who give up their time voluntarily to help others. Recognising such people is something John would have liked to do, so my sons and I thought this would be a good way of preserving his memory."
Each year the winner is presented with the Spirit of Harbury shield and their name is added to it. Anyone can make nominations.
Mrs Hunt added: "There are so many people who, through their time, effort and leadership, have helped to make Harbury the wonderful community it is. The award is to show appreciation to people who go that little extra mile.
"We still seem to find dedicated individuals who take the time to organise or help out with community events or simply be there for our villagers."
Previous winners include Janet Thornley for organising the building of a skate park for the young people of Harbury, Dan Killian for continuous community work, Brian Ingram for his work on the village hall committee, Joyce Windsor for establishing the Tom Hauley room as a venue for village events, and Lana Long for her fundraising efforts.
Mrs Long, who was born and grew up in Harbury, was awarded the shield last year for regularly organising charity events including Abba and Beatles tribute nights, sponsored safaris, quizzes, balloon races and coffee mornings.
She said: "I was very flattered to win - it was very unexpected. Arranging these events is always great fun and it's so rewarding to raise money for local good causes.
"Harbury has a fantastic community spirit and great facilities. It's a great place to live and bring up a family."
