Town response to HS2 compensation deals

KENILWORTH Town Council submitted its response to the HS2 compensation consultation with repeated fears for what the project will do to communities.

Discussing it at their last meeting, councillors were also urged to respond to the property compensation consultation individually before the January 31 deadline.

Cllr George Illingworth, town mayor, said people are already being affected by a drop in house prices, and that things are only set to get worse with expected poor compensation packages.

Urging everyone to be aware of what might happen, Cllr Michael Coker said the effect would be “tremendous” and even line construction would cause serious disruption for the next 10 years.

“In Burton Green 61 homes are likely to be affected and homes demolished. That is over a quarter of houses, it will completely destroy the community,” he said.

The next community forum to discuss plans for the high speed rail line will be held at The Kenilworth Centre on February 12 where all are invited to attend.
