Teams ready for national debates

PUPILS have been getting their heads around debate and confidence skills ahead of regional competitions to test their strengths.

Kenilworth School will enter two teams into an annual Rotary Club competition which aims to improve public speaking an confidence in debates among people under 18.

The Youth Speaks competition is made up of regional rounds and winners move on to a national final in hope of taking the crown.

And the two teams gearing up for the event have already impressed town Rotarians after visit the club to practice ahead of the first stage of competition.

Each team consists of a chair person, subject speaker and member to propose a vote of thanks. They then all take different roles within the debates.

The intermediate team spoke on road rage, with the seniors tackling the legacy of the 2012 Olympic games.

Bob Kelly from the Rotary Club, said both teams impressed with their presentations and that the club expects them to go far when they take up their places in the regional rounds later in the year.
