TORPEDOES and Dolly Mixtures are the latest keen swimmers to sign up to the Soroptimists’ swimathon in Warwick to raise funds for charity.

The respective Southam Lions and Lions ladies’ teams have been supporting the event, which is run by the Warwick and Leamington and Kenilworth branches of the Soroptimists, for almost 15 years and raised more than £140,000 for good causes by doing so.

This year, the charities to benefit are the Myton Hospices and the Leamington and district branch of Parkinson’s UK.

The event takes place at Warwick School on Sunday October 14 from 11am. Teams of six swimmers and a non-swimming team captain will compete by swimming in relay for 55 minutes - and trophies will be awarded to the team that has covered the greatest number of lengths and the team that raises the most amount in sponsorship.

Anyone wishing to take part should call 492226 or email swimathon@oldwell.plus.com

Those who would like to contribute but are unable to take part can send a cheque donation, payable to Soroptimist Swimathon, to the Swimathon Treasurer, 18 Park Hill, Kenilworth CV8 2JG.

Soroptimist International, a global movement for business and professional women, aims is to improve the well-being of women and girls in education, health and human rights in the UK and overseas.
