BOOK-mad pupils are one step closer to the finals of an international competition after beating off a team of young authors to top spot.

Both of the two quiz teams from Kenilworth School achieved “fantastic results” in the Midland heat of the Kids Lit Quiz this month.

The international quiz tests students’ literary knowledge on everything from nursery rhymes to science fiction.

Team 1, made up of Emily Carleton, Charlie Jones (Year 8) and Fin Evans and Andrea Sendula (Year 7), took the crown after winning all but one round and finishing 13 points clear of their rivals.

They will now represent the Midlands in the national final and could go on to the International in South Africa.

Team 2 - Aaron Aujla, Ben Jackson, James Butler and Brodie Brightburn came third.
