PUPILS are celebrating in style after welcoming celebrity footballers to officially open their brand new £15,000 sports pitch.
The new third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch was completed in September and officially opened by former Aston Villa player, Riccardo Scimeca and Coventry City’s Conor Thomas.
The pitch was jointly funded by The Football Foundation, Warwick District Council and Kenilworth School and is now being put to good use by clubs across the town.
They are also benefitting from improvements to the fencing, floodlighting and goal posts as part of the cash boost.
The new 3G surface for the full sized pitch has a rubber crumb filled long pile and can be used by hockey and rugby teams.
It has also been passed for approval by the FA for competitive matches in the county.
Hayden Abbott, head teacher at the school, said they were “really grateful” to the Football Foundation for the capital grant which helped make it all happen.
He said: “It is fantastic for us, the new surface is already benefitting players in the school and across the community.”
Warwick District Council, manages the pitch for community teams at evenings, weekends and holidays.
