A keen cyclist is swapping his wheels for climbing gear as he prepares for his toughest challenge yet of reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro help transform the lives of over 800 farmers across Africa with their crops.
Martin Haworth will battle extreme weather, blisters and even altitude sickness to reach the summit of Africa’s tallest mountain to raise much needed funds for Farm Africa’s Africa 100 Appeal.
The 61-year-old who is director of policy and communications for the NFU, will begin his adventure on Tuesday along with six colleagues in hope of reaching their destination by 5 October.
The father of one, who normally covers 8,000km a year on his bike, is no stranger to a challenge after having previously trekked 51 miles in 17 hours for charity. But he said taking on Kilimanjaro was his hardest fund-raiser to date.
