20 years of library lifeline

RURAL library volunteers are celebrating 20 years of the housebound delivery service which helps those who cannot get out to enjoy reading and socialising.
Warwickshire Library and Information Service runs in partnership between library staff, volunteers and Age UK to deliver books to hundreds of residents who cannot get to the library.
Around 52 volunteers work from Kenilworth Library which is the central hub for the county-wide reading scheme.
Members of the team chat with residents to find out what authors they want to read, then books are selected and delivered.
Readers then get chance to enjoy books every three weeks and a chat with the friendly volunteers.
Volunteers contributed 5,232 hours towards the delivery service last year – over 100 hours a week -and they are trained in book selection and maintenance and repair.
To volunteer, or to recommend a reader to benefit, contact Debbie Bennett on 01926 851031.
