When Simon Walker was looking for something his son could get involved with to get rid of some his excess energy, he did not realise he would be setting up a business.
He could find nothing suitable until heI heard about Little Kickers, which is very popular down in London.
Simon, who lives in Whitnash, visited a few classes and thought what a great idea to start this up in Warwickshire.
So about six months ago he bought into the Little Kickers franchise. There are currently 50 franchisees, who run over 300 classes in the UK. It is approved football training for children aged 2-5.
Simon said: “My business is called Little Kickers South Warwickshire and covers Leamington, Warwick, Kenilworth, Stratford and the surrounding areas.
“I started classes a few months ago and they are going extremely well. I started with two classes on Saturday mornings at Whitnash Community Hall and I am having to increase this to three classes already as interest has been very good. I am also opening two new classes at St Marks Church Hall on Monday afternoons.
“At Little Kickers, the focus is very much on fun - informal yet professionally run training classes for boys and girls aged 2 to 5 years. .
“The goal of Little Kickers, is to use football as a fun forum to instill children with a little extra confidence, co-ordination, control and sense of camaraderie. The course content has been developed and continually improved by FA qualified coaches and nursery schoolteachers, with ongoing input from child health specialists, Little Kickers introduces real football skills through exciting group play activities.
“Valuable concepts such as sharing, taking turns, teamwork and listening are incorporated in the activities. The classes enable children to develop agility, co-ordination and balance and early learning concepts such as colours and numbers are gently introduced through football at a very young age. This is also great exercise for children to burn off their excess energy.”
The children are split into two categories, Junior Kickers is for 2 year olds to 3 and half year olds, then Mighty Kickers 3 and half years up to 5th birthday.
Any coach that works for Little Kickers has to be CRB checked, and classes are not term time only, They are booked on blocks of either 6 or 12 weeks all year round.
