One World Link's 25th anniversary year came to a climax with a night of African food and dance at Leamington's town hall.
African flags and materials decorated the assembly room and pictures and videos marked Warwick district’s relationship with Bo in Sierra Leone.
Entertainment was in the form of traditional Ugandan xylophone music and West African drumming and then
people had the chance to learn how to dance West African-style to the music of Sierra Leonian King Masco and his band. One World Link vic- chairman Chris King said: “This was a very fitting end to our celebrations.
“I am so glad so many people came along and helped make the evening such a success. I am sorry some people were unable to get in because we were full. People are now asking when our next event will be. We would like to do more but it takes time and energy. We have so much to do in terms of our linking activities and supporting the future of the community centre in Bo.
“If anyone would like to volunteer to be our event organiser we would be delighted to hear from them because promoting a display of all the good things about Africa is very important.”
Jane Knight, chairman of Warwick district One World Link, and her Bo counterpart Johannes Mallah also addressed the audience on the night and appealed to the next generation to get involved and take the link forward.
Both are now in Bo to attend the final event in the silver anniversary year, the official opening of the Bo One World Link community centre.
