Talented young magicians will receive an award which honours 'Mr Leamington' John Curtis who died on Christmas Day 2005.
The John Curtis memorial shield was presented by his wife Pauline and friend Tony Walsh to TV personality Jeremy Beadle, who was a special guest at the Leamington and Warwick Magic Circle annual awards night.

The event took place at the Honiley Court Hotel.

Mr Walsh, who is chairman of the Mayfair security firm in Leamington, explained how the shield would be given to the young magician of the year.

He said this would be a fitting tribute to Mr Curtis who was secretary for Leamington Chamber of Trade and a member of the town’s Christmas lights committee.

Mr Walsh said: “John was a keen magician and a special person. He was like ‘Mr Leamington’, everybody knew him. This is a way for people to remember him at this time every year.”
