Rog Holmes sent this from Massachusetts.
I read the Leamington, Kenilworth and Warwick weekly newspapers from Marblehead, Massachusetts, in the USA.
I was born at the Warneford in Leamington Spa, but moved and grew up in Kenilworth. I lived at various times on Albion Street, Moseley Road, Rouncil Lane, and Dudley Road.
I attended School Lane School and Castle High School, before going to Mid Warwickshire College to get my Engineering qualifications.
I did an Engineering apprenticeship at Rawlings and Partners in Kenilworth, but then moved to work at Rolls Royce Parkside in Coventry. I got married in 1972 and moved to live in Warwick, and commuted to Coventry every day.
In 1980 we moved to live in the USA and found a house in the town of Marblehead.
Marblehead is about 12 miles north of Boston, and was incorporated as a town in 1629 and is located on a mile wide peninsular jutting out to the NE into the Atlantic.
It currently has a population of around twenty thousand and the main industries are engineering, financial services, fishing and tourism. The town is unique for America, and is very evocative of Rye in Sussex, having narrow winding streets with clapboard building on each side.
Marblehead has just completed moving all of the services (phone, cable, and electricity) underground, to give the town a more original look. Fishermen visiting the Grand Banks, from Jersey in the Channel Islands, Devon and Cornwall, originally settled Marblehead in the late 16th century. Many of the local families can trace their ancestors back to Fowey, and other fishing ports in Cornwall and Devon
I keep in touch with events in Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth, from the newspapers, and usually come over to England every year to see friends.
