I lived in Berkeley Road from 1964 - 1968 when my family emigrated to Australia.
I went to Finham Primary until July 65 then started Castle High Sept 65. Left in July 68. I really loved Kenilworth and my mum and I did not want to leave and go to the other side of the world.
I've now lived in New South Wales for 40 years and
visited Kenilworth three times in that period. I came back with my parents from Australia in 1971 and lived with my grandparents in Coventry and would come over to Kenilworth every weekend. We went back to Australia end of 71.
In 82, I came over for a visit and my parents had gone back in 73 and lived in Solihull, so I visited Kenilworth. The De Montfort Hotel was probably the big difference then.
My last visit was August last year when I took my husband to see my old house, school and a brief stroll through Abbey Fields past St Nicholas Church. There were a few changes but I think the main change was the amount of traffic but that was my opinion of all of Britain.
I now live in a district called the Southern Highlands which is about one and half hours' drive from Sydney CBD and the same distance from Canberra. The town is called Moss Vale and our district has many Brits living here because the countryside reminds them of home.
The movie Babe was filmed here because of its similarity to parts of Britain. My husband and I are intending to go and live in New York next year for about 12 months and I am sure I will visit Kenilworth again very soon.
